Inspiration for the Big Blue Lagoon Painting
The big Blue Lagoon was exhibited in 2025 at Colonnade House exhibition in Worthing, one of my favourite spaces to show my large scale paintings, it is full of light and has big white walls. I don't get the chance very often to show the big paintings as space can be a premium. Read to the end about the print series for the latest painting Big Blue Lagoon.
I love to paint large scale paintings and this has been a series I have enjoyed for quite a few years now, below you can see just a few of them.
I call these the 'big paintings' they are all painted on canvas and measure 150cm x 100cm in acrylic,

I started the Big Blue Lagoon painting in 2022! I had just mapped out what I was doing when I had a request to do a very large commission for outdoors so it took over and the painting was put on hold. After the commission was finished I went back to it in stages and in August 2025 I finally finished it! I had started in acrylics and since then I have reverted back to my all time medium - oils.
The painting went several major changes during this time, with figures being replaced and things moved around. You can see a video I made on Instagram of how the painting progressed over time and all the changes of clothes I wore during the three year period from shorts to a balaclava in winter!
The Big Blue Lagoon is a memory of all of my visits to various places in the Med and put into one painting. The feeling of heat, views and shady areas is a recurring theme for me, it has a type of dream quality. The painting also reminds me of all the blue lagoons that exist in various European countries, ones I have never visited.
