Seeking Shade, Exhibiting and Interesting Conversations

My current set of paintings are gradually being defined as I go along under the title "Seeking Shade". I feel that this project has evolved on its own gradually over the past 3 or 4 years. It started with a trip to Porto in Portugal where Roy and I took many photos for inspiration for both of us. We soon realised that cities can be very hot to navigate. In the end, we did many miles walking the beautiful and eclectic city but also seeking out shade from the blistering sun.

We have since travelled to Sardinia, Croatia and this September to Montpelier in southern France. These cities have long ago prepared for the heat, planting shady streets and gardens full of water fountains and they are a magnet for us when we are strolling the streets. Now we make a point of seeking shade in the leafy city areas along with everyone else.

After the trip recently I dashed back to set up the exhibition at Colonnade House in Worthing. I have exhibited with my friends now about 6 times there over the yearsand it is my all time favourite space to show my paintings. Big white walls and impressive windows, super helpful Colonnade people to assist with the exhibition and it overlooks Steyne Gardens, another shady spot but closer to home.

Meeting visitors at the exhibition is always a treat for me, I don't do that many exhibitions so when I can meet people who are keen to talk about the paintings it is such a lovely feeling and a lot of fun! Below are a few of the conversations

"a small painting needs a large space - everyone will focus on it"

"Walking your cat on a lead in Worthing" (spotted outside of the gallery!)

"putting a colourful painting into a minimalist home"

"Feeling of peace and calm in the paintings"

If I missed you at the exhibition do drop a line below in the comments, you can also view any of the paintings at home using my AR tool.

Pictured here are my fellow contemporaries Fleur Grenier, Anna Turner, Lorraine Gibby and Jessica Jordan.
